Hi All

Just wondered if anyone has a policy of sending a welcome / good luck gift to their placements when starting their new job. I recruit mainly women and was thinking of flowers but wondered if that might be a taken the wrong way.

Any tips appreciated

I always send a bouquet of flowers on their first day (ladies that is haven't come up with anything for the guys yet...don't think flowers or alcohol appropriate) and they love it...not only that but the clients seem to appreciate it and when my placements colleagues are looking to move they hopefully contact me...because a) its a gift and nice gesture and b) it's a good marketing tool to gain candidates and they remember you for it...

if you have any ideas for the guys let me know!

A bottle of Single Malt Whisky for the guys... unless they are gay, then you could possibly get away with flowers.

Hmmm... If they are gay then they would have to be very chic and tasteful flowers... better still would be a framed photograph of Judy Garland
I think that gifts are a lovely idea, and a bottle of champagne would work well for either gender, regardless of sexual orientation (unless they are recovering, Mormon or quite obviusly teetotal). I think it is a personal touch that makes the candidate feel looked after and well regarded.
A keepsake gift such as a nice pen or a bound notebook would also work well

hey Napoleon, guess what? its 2007! no wonder recruiters still get considered as pariahs when you publicly put your name to the kind of @!#$ that shows you as the ill-informed bigot you are.

We send champagne to the home of the candidate.

Wondering though wether we ought to be a bit less discrete and send the gift to the office?

Where do you guys usually send your gifts if you send them?

Sorry - I seem to have upset Nic. I was actually trying to inject some humour into the discussion board, but have come across as being terribly un-PC.Which part of the comment was the most offensive? Have I offended the Mormon subscribers, or the gay guys out there.
...and ill informed - I only mentioned Judy Garland, as my beloved cousin (who is gay and proud of it) had suggested that many of his friends think she is fabulous. And his flower arrangements are always 'just so'

If I had thought for a second that I was being offensive, or bigotted, I would probably not been so transparent in my identity. I have a feeling I am headed for the sack, so may need a nice recruiter to find me a new job (a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape or similar would be greatly appreciated on my first day)

Helen

Classic!! Nice one.

So perhaps a lesson for all recruiters. I wait till the end of the first week myself.

So why she not go back? Now we have a x-fer thread to the rebate issue.....lol.

Did you offer the flowers to the client instead of a rebate? LOL

We send out a congratulations card with our logo on it to the candidates new place of employment after they have started. It is inexpensive, candidates like it and it creates a good impression to clients. I wouldn't go overboard with gifts etc it is just a token to say good luck works just as well.
