Hi All,

2009 is going to be a tough year, so I hope you don't get caught out when the next cost hike hits the Temp market.

I'd just like to remind everyone that statutory holiday entitlement increases with effect from 1st April 2009 and it's no joke.

The minimum holiday entitlement for all PAYE Temps increases to a prorata 5.6 weeks.

That is 28 days for someone working a five day week, pro rata if they work part time. Up from 24 days to 28. The effect of this will be to increase your costs for holiday pay from 10.17% to 12.07% of gross pay - and don't forget the NIers effect.

Just thought I'd mention it now before people get into long term contracts they can't increase the rates on. Tom.

Life seems better as a temp! That's more than most of the perm candidates I represent get.
Thanks for the reminder Tom. Not doing temps yet, but still have plans to in the future.

Hi Liz,

Perhaps I should have made it clear that the 28 days to be paid for as holiday days include 8 bank holidays.

Doesn't affect the sums though. Tom.
