I assume so, but a client could still work it out from education dates or do we leave these out too? Should we refrain from asking for a date of birth on an application / registration form as well, but what about ID (birth certificates and passports?) What should we record on our databases?
Any ideas? |

Yes we will all have to remove DOB/age from CVs and registration forms. I started doing this at the start of August and was surprised to find only a handful of clients queried the lack of a DoB. Education dates are a grey area but from 1st October I will be leaving these out too.
Advertisements must not use words with age connotations eg, dynamic, lively etc. In addition ads will no longer be able to specify a particular length of experience or length of time post qualification, requirements will have to be competency based. Qualifications will have to be listed as ‘GCSE or equivalent’ etc (we should already be doing this last point to prevent discrimination against candidates educated overseas).
I attended an Age Legislation seminar run by Lawspeed at the end of June and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs to know where they stand with this legislation. They explain in very clear English how the law will affect recruitment companies both as agencies and employers and how to prevent a legal case. They keep the number of attendants small so that we could all ask and get sector specific information.
The legislation covers not just actual age but also perceived age. Someone who feels they have been discriminated against under this legislation can sue the recruitment company and the client company as well as the individual consultant and recruiting person at the client on a personal basis! (I've got to say the six of us at the seminar all had heart attacks at this point!!)

Dear All,
I just wonder how this is all affecting the specialist agencies out there that offer recruitment especially for the over 50's, and how they are having to restructure there business plan.
