I work the perm IT market and always try and work to the following:
Min. 20 Client Calls per day (of which 10 are new clients, never spoken to). This generates on average 20 susupects, 10 prospects and 4-5 vacancies per week.
Min. 10 Candidate Calls per day generating a minimum of 4 qualified candidates (per day) & 2 leads. I will ensure I meet at least 3 candidates for a face/face interview and submit. This will result in a min. of 1 interview request per day.
As the market is candidate driven at the moment, I also make 5 "headhunt" calls per day to candidates in my market.
All in all I average a placement every 6 - 7 working days.

Thanks ERP very helpful and concise. I'm guessing you have been in recruitment a while, have your activity levels changed from when you were a newbie?
What is your average placement fee/percentage?

Hi Mo,
Been in recruitment for 3 years. I was lucky (or unlucky depending on your viewpoint!) to start my career at one of the more aggressive consultancies, I had to work to these figures otherwise you would feel the wrath of the SD!! It's good grounding though and drums the fundamentals of recruitments into you. I grow out of it after a while and now work for an organisation offering a more consultative approach to recruitment.
I still stick to the same KPI's although Im the first to admit I dont always hit them :-) I am however realistic enough to know that if I dont pick up the phone, I'm not going to earn any money.
Average % is c18% (clients vary between 15% - 25%.) and my average fee is c£6K. |

Read your stats. Out of interest how many hours a day do you spend marketing? And when you headhunt what percentage of candidates you have spoken to actually send you a CV?

Hi Ducatti,
On average I will spend c4 hours (9.30am - 12 & 2.30pm - 4pm) on BD / Marketing calls, but it really depends on how many A grade vacancies I am working on. I have found that I can usually service 10 - 12 requirements at any time.
H/Hunting results are usually quite high, it is rare I will not get anything at all from the call (CV, Lead, Referral).

I read your message with interest since I am new to recruitment (5 months). I notice you made no mention of client visits? Do you not make any? Is this normal? I work in white collar engineering sector and try to get visits though am not as successful as I would like to be.

Hi Pooh,
Usually I will try and push for a client meeting once I have a qualfied vacancy. Unfortunately not all hiring managers see the benefit of meeting with recruiters!
My advice - explain to the HM how candidate driven the market is at the moment and any additional information you can give on company culture / environment when pitching a role may help sway a candidates decision. |

Thanks for the stats. Much appreciated. Out of interest what hours do you work (start and finish) and when do you get time to do face-face interviews?
Fitting in 4 hrs of marketing, a client meet and 3 face-face interviews plus sifting CVs, searches, headhunting, CV prep, IV prep, admin etc - I just can't seem to physically do it! (And haven't seen anyone in a firm I've worked for manage it.)

On average I work 8:30 - 7PM Mon - Thursday & 8:30 - 2/3pm on a Friday. I have a Junior Consultant / resourcer who deals with my cv prep & admin etc.
As I said in one of my original posts I don't always hit all of these kpi's. They are meant as a guideline.
The nature of recruitment means that everyday is different, but if you stick to these kpi's as closely as possible, you wont go far wrong. |

Hi,
I was in temp recruitment for a couple of years but have been perm recruitment for the past 6 months. I at the moment speak to a decision maker every other call and get on average 5 vacancies a week, I register 20 people a week for vacancies, normally half face to face and half on the telephone as I have a large number of national clients as well. I look at getting 8 interviews out a week and am just starting to try and concentrate on spec calls as well but have always had a lot of vacancies to deal with and not really the time to concentrate on getting that right. I have a client which is high volume and very small fee which brings my invoice average right down but if I ignore them my average is probably between £3000 - £3500. I make at least a placement a week and aim for £10k a month. Not great billing in the eyes of a lot of recruiters but its a start and I still have a lot to learn. |
