Hi, I have been asked by a client who is interviewing a good candidate for a senior role whether I will check up on whether what he says on his CV is accurate, ie did he work for those companies for that amount of time etc. (Education and qualifications not important to them). This is the first time I have been asked. Does anyone really call round earlier employers' HR departments to check? And if so, do they respond? Or are there alternatives? If they cost then I will pass it onto the client. Thanks for your help, Chris

You could try contacting http://www.verifile.co.uk or http://www.ndfassociates.co.uk. Both check CVs, take references, do background screening etc. There are other companies that offer similar services. Dave

Hi Chris You've probably already done so but merely telling a candidate that you ARE going to check CV data has, in my experience, been enough to weed out lies and exaggerations. After being told that background checks were going to be made, I had one candidate who blurted out that this 'fact' and that 'fact' on his CV was a downright lie!
