I am hoping some of you can recommend a single user database.

I am a solo recruiter who is looking for a single user database that is not webbased/ASP but rather can be stored on my laptop and not linked via a server etc.

I am hoping I can get a database that links with outlook and emails via my 3g card, laptop runs on XP Pro.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi David - we used Intelligence for a while, it is cheap, functional and ideal for a solo user. It links with outlook and sms functions etc too. The guy you need to talk to is Shane McCusker and the website is www.intel-sw.com

Hi,

I was in the same position as you 5 months ago and finally opted for Palustris from Crocodile Systems for three reasons (1) CV Parsing accuracy, (2) ongoing support & update costs and (3) initial purchase price.

I would also advise closely looking at HRS Pro and Influence.

Hope this helps.

Paul

what exactly do you want it to do ?

I use Outlook contacts for my client database - it's free & you can format your own fields (notes etc.) as well as search

I use Copernic desktop search for cv searching - again it's free & uses full boolean search strings

Use google. you don't need to buy anything to work on your own, just use what is out there for free, google and google docs give you everything you need to run any kind of business for free.

Hi David,

I have used Business Contact Manager for Outlook for 2 years now. It came as a free download from Microsoft when I purchased XP Professional. It automatically attaches email received and sent to records, which I love.

Don't, however, expect to use it if you hire more people. I have 2 remote resourcers and we can't share the database without exporting, posting it to a file share space and then importing, which is a bit of a pain.

I use it to keep track of all companies, clients and candidates as well as job orders. You can attach any sort of file to the record as well (CVs, etc) and make notes of phone calls, business notes, etc. If you work out of Outlook, you will enjoy the seamless functionality.

Happy recruiting!

Jocie

I use Chameleon-i. It's free for the first user, it's easy to use and it does everything you need a database to do.

I would suggest chameleon-i as well. The first user is free and the costs for any additional users are good. If you start with something like this it means you don't waste time changing to something new as you expand your business, and thus limits the risk of losing data.

Hi - we use the invenias product. www.invenias.com - it is completely linked into outlook so makes tracking candidates and emails from the same screen very easy and it can be scaled up very quickly and easily if you grow.

Highly recommend chamelon-i. First user free and has just been upgraded with new search functionality.

Not sure Chameleon-i is good for you, as it is web based and you were asking for a download.

however I do use chameleon-i, or at least I have dabbled with it over the last few days. for a free package it certainly does a better job than basic CRM's I have downloaded. But there are some bugs I don't like, such as teh tags on the client side been organised chronographically rather than alphabetically. Drives me crazy trying to find the tag I am looking for.

Worth a look though, if only to rule it out. Costs nothing

Just thought I'd respond to your comment Nick regarding the tags displaying chronographically and let you know we have updated this so they are now Alphabetically listed thanks for bringing that to our attention.
